APOD featured this today (Astronomy Picture of the Day website, for thsoe who've not heard of it, previously), which also says:

"he second supernova found in M101 in the past 15 years. Rapid follow up observations already indicate that SN 2023ixf is a Type II supernova, an explosion that occurs after a massive star runs out of nuclear fuel and collapses." I've got the Supernova Working Group Website bookmarked. Will be checking bac k there from time to time.

Second one in 15 years? Holy Haleakala!
